| See schedule for Fiber Play dates and times. Spinners meet @10am on the last Saturday of the month (September to May). Casual and fun – spinners meet monthly for social time, potluck and sometimes study. All Fiber Play and Spinning Group meetings are multi-craftual! Spinning Group Spinners meet monthly from September to May and sometimes during the summer break. Fiber Play Several days are scheduled for members to work various fiber pursuits. Fiber Play days are often also scheduled during the summer break. |
| Learning Labs and Workshops are opportunities to take a deeper dive into fiber or fiber adjacent subjects. Learning Labs are FREE to members! These are wonderful opportunities to learn a new process, technique, or skill (like photographing your work). There are usually 2 or 3 Learning Labs throughout the year. We generally have 1 to 2 workshops per year. We bring in nationally known instructors for 2 or 3 day workshops. The prices of these learning experiences vary according to the fees the leader charges, but we make them as affordable to the membership as possible. Occasionally we sponsor a workshop that is led by one of our members or someone in the immediate fiber community. |
| The Guild has a long tradition of sponsoring study groups for our membership. Weaving study groups are organized around a particular structure or weaving process. Past Study Groups focused on things like overshot, echo & iris, or lace weaves. We also have a Rigid Heddle study group that meets throughout the year exploring all things rigid heddle! This has been a growing group as they explored clasped warp and weft, various pick-up techniques, and wild warps made from lots of different novelty yarns. The Sewing With Your Handwovens study group is also a strong group that have hands on sessions to create a variety of fashion accessories or clothing with the fabric that the member wove. These study groups are also free to the members and are SO satisfying! |
| As a 501(c)(3) organization, part of our mission is to educate and demonstrate the arts of spinning, weaving, and dyeing to the general public. We do this in a variety of ways, traveling to schools, setting up in public parks around North Texas, or being a part of a municipality's celebration or event. As a non-profit organization, our operations depend many volunteers. Volunteers help us fulfill our mission and create an environment of connection, learning, and creativity. We make it fun, carpooling together and gathering at places like the Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano during Home School days or summer camps. Becoming a volunteer brings you into the fold of this fun and caring organization! Guild members become good friends for years and years! With many jobs that are small and quick, it is easy to begin exploring all the ways you can contribute to the ongoing operation of our beloved guild. We look forward to getting to know you! |
