The Dallas Handweavers and Spinners Guild (DHSG) is an incorporated, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to promote and encourage interest in the fiber arts, especially those related to handweaving and hand spinning. Our fiscal year runs from June 1st through May 31st each year and meetings are held in September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April, and May.
Founded in 1972, the DHSG boasts an active membership across North Texas. Members represent a wide variety of interests and talents, such as:
- traditional pattern weaving
- contemporary and ethnic woven clothing and accessories
- tapestry weaving
- off-loom and other innovative weaving techniques
- handspinning
- dying of yarns with natural vegetable and chemical dyes
- basketry and fiber sculpture
Members have access to nine monthly programs on a wide range of topics, workshops led by nationally known instructors, yearly study groups that explore weaving in depth, the Guild’s library of book on all types of fiber related topics, and equipment owned by DHSG for use and rental by members.
DHSG provides an opportunity to network with accomplished individuals in various disciplines. DHSG offers much to anyone interested in weaving, spinning or related fiber crafts.
