Classes in Weaving

Kaki Crowell-Hilde

Kaki learned to weave at Lily Bohlin School of Weaving in Victoria, BC Canada in 1976. She holds 2 MFAs in Fibers and Metals and taught both areas in upper level education for over 20 years. She also exhibited as a practicing artist, winning awards in each. She transitioned into the jewelry industry for a 2nd career before retiring last year.

Kaki and her husband have remodeled their 2-story home to include a teaching studio on the 1st floor. Glimakra floor looms, rigid heddle looms, Ashford table looms, a large layout table, sewing machine, supplies, and a Mac with the full WeaveIt Pro application are all available for student use.

Regarding teaching, Kaki says “I am simply a facilitator of information sharing. I always learn as much from my students as they will learn from me.”

For more information you can contact her.

Fancy Fibers Owner & Teacher

Mary Berry

Mary Berry is the owner and resident teacher at Fancy Fibers, a retail shop and learning center in Farmersville, Texas, just 16 miles east of McKinney.  She primarily teaches weaving (both rigid heddle and shaft loom weaving), spinning, dyeing, and rug hooking both at her shop and at festivals and conferences nationwide.  She holds a MA in Teaching and taught middle school before retiring and moving to a full-time job in the fiber world.  For 12 years, after moving to Farmersville, she raised Shetland sheep, Suri alpacas, and Angora goats, and would still be raising her little Shetland sheep if the city would let her!

At the shop, she sells a wide selection of weaving yarn;  tools; looms and spinning wheels from Leclerc, Kromski, Schacht, Louet, Spinolution, Ashford and Glimakra; and both MX and acid dyes. In her classes, she focuses on providing the students with good foundational skills, and then encourages them to use those tools to be creative each in their own way.  When she’s not teaching, you’ll find her playing with all the fun “toys” in her shop to create something beautiful.
